An Adventure in Service

A Midlife Adventure

Doc Reiss has been serving the community through the Nor’Wester Rotary Club and other outlets for as long as I have known him, most likely long before. In 2012 an idea formed in his mind as to how to help people far away, in Togo, Africa. Doc met Bedi Taouvik Boukariat a language seminar. While conversing with each other Taouvik complained about the need to retreat to the bush relieve himself. This seemed like a problem worth solving. It was intune with Rotary International’s idea of a valid International Project. Now to tackle the details-like finding people to do the work, a host club in Togo, local Rotary Clubs to raise matching funds to apply for various grants. Doc made all of this happen, with the help of others but only because of his vision.

A lot has happened with this project over the past decade. Doc made several long trips to Ghana to connect with the people that have been helped and to visit with Tao. Doc’s vision has grown a bit also, but I will let him tell that story.
